Soft Circuits: LED Cuff Workshop
Join HacDC for a workshop in which we'll construct a simple soft circuit -- in this case, a unisex fabric cuff with an LED that lights up when you're wearing it. We're charging a $10 fee to cover the cost of the materials, including the fabric, conductive thread and velcro, LEDs, batteries, and resistor. To participate in this workshop, you do not need to have any prior experience with electronics; this workshop is suitable for all ages (small children should be accompanied by an adult, though). We'll be using a tutorial by SparkLab's Syuzi Pakhchyan, a media designer and tinkerer who weaves electronic circuitry with craft.
What to bring
You don't need to bring anything with you (except $10 if you're not using PayPal), but if you'd like to use your own needle, pins, and scissors, feel free to bring them. Additionally, if you want to experiment beyond the simple cuff design we'll be following, you're welcome to bring any electronic and/or fabric materials you'd like.
How to get to HacDC
HacDC is located within St. Stephen and the Incarnation Episcopal Church on the corner of Newton and 16th Streets NW. The address is 1525 Newton St NW, Washington, DC 20010-3103.
Enter the church building through the red doors on the west-facing (toward 16th Street) side. The ICBM coordinates of these doors is about 38.933545 degrees latitude , -77.035908 degrees longitude. Go all the way up the stairs and down the hallway; HacDC will be the last door on your right. And come on in! HacDC has a fridge stocked with sodas and water available for a donation of 50 cents each, along with a microwave, coffeemaker, a sink, and of course wi-fi. The phone number there is 202-870-5002.
The closest Metrorail station is the Columbia Heights stop on the green and yellow lines, at 14th & Irving.
Contact the event organizer at katie@hoteldetective.org if you have any questions.
HacDC is a hackerspace located in Washington, DC. HacDC members improve the world by creatively rethinking technology. We break, build, and occasionally abuse technology in the pursuit of greater knowledge about how it works and repurposing it to build new things.
